Kirkus: Another Best of the 2010 List with Mirror, Mirror On It

Mirror Mirror: A Book of Reversible Verse We Are in a Book! (An Elephant and Piggie Book)

Mirror Mirror: A Book of Reversible Verse by Marilyn Singer has appeared on another Best of the Year list, this time from Kirkus. It's referenced twice actually, on 2010 Best Children's Books: Picture Books to Make You Think and the regular picture book list.  Every time I see this title on a list, the more I hope, hope, hope for a Caldecott nod.

Oh, and another favorite, not fairy tale related appears on the list, too: We Are in a Book! (An Elephant and Piggie Book).  I got to hear Mo Willems read it at the Southern Festival of Books last month and it is appearing on a few of my gift lists this holiday season.  Love it, too, as a great easy reader/picture book book reminiscent of one of my childhood (and grown-up favorites) The Monster at the End of this Book.

Reckless White Cat (Curse Workers, Book 1) Pegasus

Only the 2010 Best Books for Teens: Fantasy & Science Fiction has any other fairy tale related titles.  Reckless by Cornelia Funke.  The list is also includes The White Cat by Holly Black.  Also Robin McKinley's new book, Pegasus, which I haven't mentioned on the blog yet.  It at least deals with a folkloric creature, so I could justify it.  :)  Besides, it's McKinley!  And there's A Conspiracy of Kings by Megan Whalen Turner, too.

So what are your top fairy tale books for 2010? Review the lists of publiations at Fairy Tale Influenced Fiction 2010 and Fairy Tale Picture Books 2010.
