New Book: Winter (The Lunar Chronicles) by Marissa Meyer

Winter (The Lunar Chronicles) by Marissa Meyer is released this week which is cause for happiness and sadness. Happiness because it is a new book in a popular, beloved series. Sadness because it is the announced final book in the series. Thanks to this series there has been a surge in science fiction fairy tales, too, for which I have been very grateful.

New Book: Spinning Starlight by R.C. Lewis

Spinning Starlight by R.C. Lewis is released this month. And wow! It's science fiction. Using Wild Swans as inspiration. That's new! I am excited about this one.

Book description:

Sixteen-year-old heiress and paparazzi darling Liddi Jantzen hates the spotlight. But as the only daughter in the most powerful tech family in the galaxy, it's hard to escape it. So when a group of men shows up at her house uninvited, she assumes it's just the usual media-grubs. That is, until shots are fired.

Liddi escapes, only to be pulled into an interplanetary conspiracy more complex than she ever could have imagined. Her older brothers have been caught as well, trapped in the conduits between the planets. And when their captor implants a device in Liddi's vocal cords to monitor her speech, their lives are in her hands: One word, and her brothers are dead.

Desperate to save her family from a desolate future, Liddi travels to another world, where she meets the one person who might have the skills to help her bring her eight brothers home-a handsome dignitary named Tiav. But without her voice, Liddi must use every bit of her strength and wit to convince Tiav that her mission is true. With the tenuous balance of the planets deeply intertwined with her brothers' survival, just how much is Liddi willing to sacrifice to bring them back?
Haunting and mesmerizing, this retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Wild Swans fuses all the heart of the classic tale with a stunning, imaginative world in which a star-crossed family fights for its very survival.

Bargain Ebook: Cress (The Lunar Chronicles) by Marissa Meyer for $2.50

Cress (The Lunar Chronicles) by Marissa Meyer is on sale for $2.50 for ebook format for a short time. This is the third book in this fairy tale science fiction series--one of the biggest fairy tale literary hits of recent years--and the first time this book has been on sale. It has been $8.99 most of this year since its February release date.

The first book in the series, Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles Book 1), is usually priced at $2.99 these days to help introduce readers to the series. The second book, Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles), is $6.99.

Of course, loyal fans are most excited that we are only a few months away from Fairest: The Lunar Chronicles: Levana's Story, the fourth book in the series that will be released on 1/27/15.

Book description:

In this third book in Marissa Meyer's bestselling Lunar Chronicles series, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and prevent her army from invading Earth.

Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl trapped on a satellite since childhood who’s only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s being forced to work for Queen Levana, and she’s just received orders to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is splintered. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a higher price than she’d ever expected. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai, especially the cyborg mechanic. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.

New Book: Stitching Snow by R. C. Lewis

(Amazon US/UK links)

Stitching Snow by R. C. Lewis is released this week. And this is a rarer retelling: a science fiction Snow White. I'm always thrilled with science fiction genre retellings of fairy tales. Thanks to Marissa Meyer for helping make them more popular in recent years. And hubby John and I had fun earlier last year with creating our own Science Fiction Fairy Tales from SurLaLune, one even a Snow White. Remember this?

The Stitching Snow (UK Edition) will be released in the UK in November, so not too long of a wait there.

Book description:

Princess Snow is missing.

Her home planet is filled with violence and corruption at the hands of King Matthias and his wife as they attempt to punish her captors. The king will stop at nothing to get his beloved daughter back-but that's assuming she wants to return at all.

Essie has grown used to being cold. Temperatures on the planet Thanda are always sub-zero, and she fills her days with coding and repairs for the seven loyal drones that run the local mines.

When a mysterious young man named Dane crash-lands near her home, Essie agrees to help the pilot repair his ship. But soon she realizes that Dane's arrival was far from accidental, and she's pulled into the heart of a war she's risked everything to avoid.

In her enthralling debut, R.C. Lewis weaves the tale of a princess on the run from painful secrets . . . and a poisonous queen. With the galaxy's future-and her own-in jeopardy, Essie must choose who to trust in a fiery fight for survival.
