This has been on my consideration list for several weeks and I've finally just decided to post it, The 7 most sneakily creepy fairy tales we all know by Zack Barangan for Guyism.com. It was just not one of the topics I imagined appearing on Guyism, so that amused me.
We all grew up with fairy tales. You know, the nice stories with fairies, nice dwarves, heroes and heroines. Little did we know that we were being fed the filtered version of these stories. In reality, most of these stories are laden with really creepy and gory themes that were crafted to frighten children into the right behavior. Here are seven versions of fairy tales that you can tell a child if you really want to be a terrible person and scare the crap out of them.It is refreshing to see a more mainstream site understand that fairy tales are much more than their Disney versions. Of course, the information isn't quite as accurate as one would like, especially for the bit on The Little Mermaid, but the heart is there. And some of the commmenters jumped on The Little Mermaid error, too.
The list is only seven tales long:
1. Rumpelstiltskin
2. Hansel and Gretel
3. Little Mermaid
4. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
5. The Robber Bridegroom (Do "we" all know that one?)
6. Little Red Riding Hood
7. Cinderella
Click through to the article to see his reasons for deeming these tales "creepy."
