New Edition of Disney's Beauty and the Beast

So you probably already know that Disney is rereleasing Beauty and the Beast to DVD and Blu-Ray with a release date of October 5. Yes, this is the Diamond edition this time since there has already been a Platinum edition.  (Don't try to figure it out.  I just wonder if the next time they release it it will be plutonium or titanium or something else.)

Either way, this is its first release to Blu-ray to those of you using that platform now. And just to make it more confusing, it is available in at least three versions.

Beauty and the Beast (Three-Disc Diamond Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo in DVD Packaging)

Beauty and the Beast (Three-Disc Diamond Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo in DVD Packaging).  This one includes DVD and Blu-ray.  I recommend this one if you haven't converted to Blu-ray yet.  This way you will have both.  This one comes in DVD sized and styled packaging.

Beauty and the Beast (Three-Disc Diamond Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging)

Beauty and the Beast (Three-Disc Diamond Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging). This one includes DVD and Blu-ray, too. I recommend this one the most if you haven't converted to Blu-ray yet. This way you will have both. This one comes in Blu-ray sized and styled packaging.  If you prefer your shelves to have this style of packaging, pick this one.  It's the same price as the one above at this time.

Beauty And The Beast (Two-Disc Diamond Edition)

Beauty And The Beast (Two-Disc Diamond Edition) Then there is the DVD edition not due out until November 23 although it will be a little cheaper, depending on where you buy and what discount you receive.  Yes, the industry is trying to force is quickly over to Blu-ray and this is Disney's participation in the plan.

Beauty and the Beast is tied with Sleeping Beauty as my favorites of the Disney fairy tales.  Beauty and the Beast would be the clear winner for me if I didn't have some quibbles with the story and characters, mostly the Beast.  But that isn't pertinent today, so I won't discuss.  Sleeping Beauty, by the way, is also still available in Blu-ray from its own platinum edition a few years ago.

  1. Thanks for including that coupon offer! The pull for blu-ray is stupid when everything is going digital, but since Beauty and the Beast is my favorite, I'll probably pick up the new edition to see what they've changed up since the platinum edition.
Yes, I am playing right into their hands.

I'm curious to know what issues you have with the Beast. I realize the story is inaccurate to the folktale, but it is singlehanded responsible, all the same, for getting me interested in fairy tales and their study in the first place, so it holds a really special place in my heart.
