Here's one of the more interesting ad campaigns I've seen in a while. This was a print ad for Kellogg's All Bran in Belgium in 2008. It had a companion piece of Eve in the Garden of Eden, too.
Now the concept seems fine at first and works well enough on a surface level. I found the dwarf hats buried in apples rather fun, too. But when one considers the apple is poisonous for Snow White (and forbidden for Eve), bringing about death (or other woes for Eve), the idea is also subtly disturbing. Eat our cereal! It has lots of fruit that'll kill you!
And weren't they clever to play with Disney's Snow White, but then again not? Wonder if they played the old percentage game...49% not Disney, so we're safe?
The advertising firm was JWT, Brussels, Belgium. See it big here on Ads of the World.
I agree with you. Not a very good commercial idea using Snow White´s and Eve´s bad apples. They could instead have used the apples that Idun from norse mythology has. Idun was a godess, and her apples gave eternal youth. :-)
ReplyDeleteHonestly, my first thoughts were, "That looks an awful lot like the Disney Snow White," and, "Seriously, apples with Snow White? What version of the story are you using?" Only after those thoughts did I see the cute dwarf hats.
